How to clone a dying harddrive
Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008So it was the last day of 2006 and my three and a half year old Seagate Barracuda 120 gigabyte hard disk was dying. Booting took a bit longer than normal and the system were slower than normal. While burning a DVD the whole system locked up forcing a reboot. To be sure I downloaded software from Seagate which let me check my hard drive, and I got an answer telling me the disk was having problems. I was lucky -in two ways. One, the hard drive did not completely die on me so I could still copy what was left of it to a new hard drive, and second, there was a computer store open on the last day of 2006. So I bought myself a 320 GB harddrive. I even purchased a Seagate again because I think they are relatively silent and reliable even though mine died. But who was I to blame, I had been using (abusing) my 120 GB disk a lot, I did not blame my hard drive for failing.
